Client: Brisbane Boys’ College
Brisbane Boys’ College has engaged Commercial Marine Group (CMG), leveraging their marine expertise and proven track record, to provide dive support and undertake the replacement of a pontoon beam at the school’s Rowing Club located in St Lucia. CMG previously completed similar works at this site in 2022.
Scope of Works
This project involves a full removal and like-for-like replacement of the existing pontoon beam, including associated timber decking. The detailed scope includes:
- Site Inspection & Measurements:
A comprehensive on-site inspection to assess the condition of the existing structure and collect precise measurements for the fabrication of a new beam. - Beam Fabrication:
Manufacture of a new beam, designed as three (3) sections to be spliced at locations experiencing lower structural loads and stresses, ensuring both strength and ease of installation. - Removal of Existing Beam:
Safe removal of the current beam (comprised of two spliced sections) utilizing the on-deck HIAB crane aboard CMG’s vessel Invictus. If necessary, temporary support will be provided to the pontoons and gangway during this phase. - Installation of New Beam:
Installation of the newly fabricated beam (three sections) using the HIAB crane aboard Invictus, ensuring accurate alignment and secure placement. - Anchoring and Reconnection:
Installation of new ChemSet anchor bolts into the concrete deck of the pontoons. Reinstatement of the four (4) gangway hinges to ensure structural integrity and functionality. - Decking Replacement:
Replacement of the timber decking located above the beam with new like-for-like (or equivalent) decking materials to match the original aesthetic and performance.
