Currently, Oliver is involved in a variety of underwater infrastructure projects, from minor main pipe repairs to cofferdam removals and technical reports on vital marine structures. He’s also developing temporary solutions for bridge inspections, incorporating crocodile enclosures – because, in this field, engineering isn’t just about calculations; it’s about navigating the unexpected.
One of his proudest achievements? Designing the temporary structural checks and lifting plans for an 11-storey precast flooring system in London’s Olympia redevelopment – managing thousands of intricate components with pinpoint accuracy. However, in marine engineering, nothing compares to the successful installation of a 1km pipeline across the Brisbane River – a testament to the sheer power of strategic planning and execution.
Beyond calculations and site work, Oliver constantly pushes the boundaries of innovation. He is particularly captivated by advancements in hydrographic surveying, which revolutionise how marine structures are assessed and maintained. With marine projects becoming larger, bolder, and more ambitious, the industry’s future has never looked more exciting.
When he’s not on-site strategising how to outmanoeuvre the elements, Oliver faces challenges of a different sort – whether training for triathlons, hiking through rugged terrains, or baking (yes, baking) with the same precision he applies to engineering. Currently, he’s deep into a Game of Thrones binge (because even engineers need an escape from reality).
