South Bank Clem Jones Promenade Renewal | Commercial Diving & Marine Infrastructure Works QLD

Asset Life ExtensionBrisbane RiverMarine InfrastructurePile RemediationPublic Infrastructure RenewalSouth Bank Brisbane

Commercial Marine Group was engaged by Duratec for the South Bank Clem Jones Promenade Renewal, delivering specialist marine construction and commercial diving support for one of Brisbane’s most recognised riverfront public assets.

The project formed part of broader renewal works to extend the walkway’s service life, safety and long-term performance as an important pedestrian and recreational connection within the South Bank precinct.

CMG’s role focused on the specialist marine works required to support durability, protection and long-term asset performance, including pile repairs, anode installation, reinforcement welding and grouted HDPE sleeve installation to pontoon guide piles.

Scope of Works

  • Commercial diving support across marine remediation activities
  • Marine access and vessel support, including CMG’s vessel Trojan
  • Repair of 95 piles using the Denso 500 Series system
  • Anode installation on each repaired pile
  • Pile reinforcement welding
  • Installation of grouted HDPE sleeves on 4 pontoon guide piles
  • Barge and crane support using MAKO barge with 15t crane for HDPE sleeve installation
  • Works delivered around tides, river conditions, lifting requirements and vessel positioning
  • Environmental controls and public interface management support
  • Coordination with Duratec and the broader project team across staged marine works

Constraints

The works were delivered in a busy live-river environment beneath the public walkways, with restricted headroom, changing tides, vessel positioning, lifting operations, diver interface, existing pile conditions, environmental controls, and public access requirements all needing careful management to maintain safe, efficient delivery.

CMG’s approach relied heavily on experienced commercial diving crews, safe marine construction methods, precise sequencing, and close coordination with principal contractors.

The South Bank Clem Jones Promenade Renewal demonstrates the value of specialist marine capability in maintaining marine assets that often sit out of sight but remain essential to supporting a safer, stronger, longer-lasting infrastructure for the Brisbane community.
